Step 3: Acoustic percussion check on every tube#

Systematically tap each tube with a coin or a dedicated inspection tool. Move along the down tube, top tube, seat tube, chainstays, and seatstays in 1 to 2 inch increments. The acoustic return tells the story.

Sharp, high-pitched ring: sound, fully bonded laminate.

Dull, low-pitched thud: likely subsurface delamination, void, or interlaminar separation.

Tap testing is subjective (depends on the technician's auditory acuity) and unreliable on thick complex zones like bottom bracket shells, tapered head tubes, and carbon-to-metal junctions.
