Presidio Composites is an independent carbon fiber inspection service based in San Francisco, serving the greater Bay Area used-bike market. We produce structured, branded inspection reports that document the observable condition of carbon fiber bicycles.
Carbon fiber damage is often structural, and often invisible.
A frame can look clean while its laminate is compromised from a crash, impact, or manufacturing flaw. The resulting uncertainty depresses the value of used carbon bikes across the market: sellers leave money on the table, buyers avoid the category entirely.
The nearest specialized carbon evaluators are out of state and ship-in only, with multi-week backlogs. Presidio Composites exists to fill that gap locally: fast, productized inspections with transparent pricing and a standardized report.
One report format, applied the same way every time.
Every report follows the same format, covers the same structural zones, and is delivered as a branded web page that is private to the customer by default. The goal is a documented inspection: the same trust function a home inspection provides in a real estate transaction.
We are not affiliated with any bike manufacturer, shop, or marketplace. When a customer is referred by a buyer, we report what we find. When a customer is the seller, we report what we find. The report is the product; the customer is either side of the transaction.
What an inspection covers, and what it doesn't.
Clarity is part of what we deliver. An inspection report documents what's observable through the examination method we use; we're explicit about what falls inside that scope and what doesn't.
In scope. Documentation of visible damage and indicators of underlying damage at the frame, fork, handlebars, and seatpost. A standardized assessment using the methodology published in every report. In-person and concierge inspections also include pulsed thermography NDT on high-stress junctions; concierge adds ultrasonic spot-checks on flagged areas. Flags on any conditions that warrant attention.
Outside scope. Predictions of future performance under load. Fitness of the bike for any particular use case. Damage modes that require X-ray, CT imaging, or laboratory-grade analysis beyond the pulsed thermography and ultrasonic modalities we run in-house. When our findings warrant deeper evaluation, we refer to a partner lab.
The deliverable. A documented record of the condition we observed, intended as decision support for buyers, sellers, and bike shops. It is not a structural certification, an engineering analysis, an appraisal of value, or a guarantee of safety. We document what we observe, and we stand behind the rigor of how we observe it.
